AN open air production of Taming of the Shrew will take place in Stourport.
Folksy Theatre, a touring company of professional actors that play in rural venues throughout the UK, will perform the Shakespeare comedy in the grounds of Bishops Wood.
Tom Hardwicke, a director for Folksy Theatre, said: “Set in 1950s Britain this production is filled with doo-wop, combed back hair and fedoras.
“There is modern music from Katy Perry and Beyonce with a 50s twist and lots of comedy, humour and audience interaction.
“We have made it adaptable and accessible to all ages.
“It is The Taming of the Shrew as you’ve never seen it before.”
He added that Folksy Theatre, which completed a national tour of Romeo and Juliet last year, uses a minimal set and remains true to the origins of open-air drama by relying mainly on the natural beauty and surroundings each outdoor space has to offer.
Gill Frankling, manager of Bishops Wood Centre, said: “We welcome Folksy Theatre back again for their fantastic entertainment, after their production of Romeo and Juliet here last year.
“They are always very good and we are sure fun will be had by all.”
The performance will take at the Bishops Wood Centre in Crossway Green, near to Stourport, on Thursday, July 24 at 7pm.
Pre-booked tickets cost £8 to £12 and can be purchased from folksytheatre.co.uk. Tickets on the door cost £10 to £15.
Members of the audience should bring picnics, blankets and folding chairs.
