When it comes to Cross Country, The Bewdley School and Sixth Form Centre proved once again to be the best in the Wyre Forest District. Eight schools took part in the annual competition, with learners from KS3 and KS4 taking part. Over 40 learners from the various schools took part in each of the six 4km races.

Bewdley selected its eight fastest runners to go through to the final stage of the competition. Bewdley won four out of the six races: Jak Patrick (Year 7), Ryan Giles (Year 8/9), Bryony Haines (Year 10/11) and Callum Tinsdale (Year 10/11) all claimed first place in each of their races! Bewdley claimed a second prize in the fifth race, which put the team in the final winning position. In the breakdown of the races, the boys’ team won their category and the girls finished a very close second. This is the School’s fifth win in a row. Bewdley are thrilled to have achieved this overall team position.

The PE department felt that the success of the team was due to the fact that, over the past 5 years, staff have encouraged a whole school enthusiasm for cross-country running. The trials allow everyone to compete and learners are given opportunities to improve their level whatever their standard. Each year many students look forward to the challenge of trying to make the elite eight, and the chance to represent the school at a district level. Those learners that finish in the top eight in the district race, are given the opportunity to compete in the county competition. The PE department also run a cross-county after school club, with over 20 learners currently attending each week.Congratulations to all those involved!
