SEVEN students at a Bewdley school won national awards in this year’s UK Mathematics Trust senior maths challenge.

The Bewdley High School and Sixth Form Centre pupils won one gold, one silver and five bronze awards in the competition.

Teddy Turner, 17, who won the gold award and best in school, has been invited to take part in the senior kangaroo challenge against 2,000 other maths students.

More than 98,000 students from across the UK entered the challenge with the top 10 per cent receiving a gold certificate, the next 20 per cent, silver and the next 30 per cent achieving bronze.

Steven Williams, of year 13, achieved the silver award and bronze awards went to Sam Johnson, Ed Proctor, Lily Booth, Jack Davies and Matt O’Sullivan, who are all in year 12.

The senior maths challenge is run by the UK Mathematics Trust and aimed at year 13 students and below.

The charity aims to advance the education of young people in mathematics.
