The Rotary Club in Great Britain and Ireland organises a host of competitions aimed at giving young people the opportunity to showcase their abilities and promote their talents perhaps setting them on the path of a future career. As part of this initiative The Rotary Club of Bewdley was pleased to sponsor its 5th Rotary Young Photographer competition at The Bewdley School and Sixth Form Centre on 31st January with the Rotary theme for 2012-13 of ‘Peace’.

Each entrant was required to submit a portfolio of 3 photographs together with a description of their inspiration for taking the photographs. The response to the competition was excellent and we were amazed at the diversity of the 44 entries submitted. The portfolios were judged on technical merit and imaginative interpretation of the theme and the judges decided to award cash prizes to the three best portfolios submitted in each age group, senior and intermediate, and to the best overall photograph in the competition.

In the senior group 1st prize was awarded to Chloe Walkley (Year 13), 2nd prize to Charlotte Bond (Year 12) and 3rd prize to Joe Turner (Year 10). In the intermediate group 1st prize was awarded to Thomas Dalton (Year 9), 2nd prize to James Bendall (Year 7) and 3rd prize to Rebecca Carter (Year 9). Joe Turner won the prize for the best overall photograph. All entrants received a certificate.

The two 1st prize portfolios will now go forward to be judged in the RIBI District 1060 heat of this national competition. The Rotary Club of Bewdley are grateful to The Bewdley School and Sixth Form Centre for their help organizing and hosting the competition.
