AN APPLICATION to retain a controversial fence to block a popular cut through will go back before councillors.

A decision on the retrospective planning application to keep the 1.9metre-high barrier on the route between Blackwell Street and Churchfields in Kidderminster, next to the Peacock Inn, was deferred last month by Wyre Forest District Council’s planning committee.

Councillors wanted the applicants to consider replacing the fence with a gate which would stop Kwik Fit’s forecourt being used as a cut-through but could be opened to let larger delivery vehicles through, instead of reversing on to Blackwell Street.

A spokesman for Kwik Fit has told planners, however, that would be “extremely difficult to manage and police” and have stuck with the fence.

The revised application will be discussed by the planning committee at a meeting on Tuesday.

Planning officer Emma Anning has recommended approval for the retention of the fence on the condition it remains painted black.

She said Worcestershire County Council and West Mercia Police had confirmed it is not a criminal offence to reverse on to an A-road, despite being contrary to the highway code.
