STUDENTS at a Bewdley school put their fitness to the test to raise £1,000 to help a children’s hospital fight cancer.
Year 7 pupils at the Bewdley School and Sixth Form Centre completed a series of sponsored bleep tests during their PE lessons, collecting the funds to support Birmingham Children’s Hospital’s cancer appeal.
The tough test sees students run continuously between two points at a set distance apart at the same time as a beep is played out through speakers. The time between each beep progressively decreases encouraging the participant to run faster.
Teresa Stuart, year 7 director of learning, said: “We are so proud of our learners commitment to raising money for such a worthy cause.”
Justine Cleary, schools education fundraiser for Birmingham Children’s Hospital, said the cancer appeal was aiming to raise £4 million for a new children’s cancer centre at the facility.
“We are absolutely delighted that year 7 students at Bewdley School have chosen to support our children’s cancer centre appeal,” she added. “They have all worked really hard to raise such an incredible amount of money.
“It is always great to see children thinking about other children and I would like to thank them, the staff and parents at the school for their very generous support.”
