ALMOST 30 homes will be built on the former British Sugar site after plans were given the green light - despite previously being recommended for refusal.

Taylor Wimpy met Wyre Forest District Council planning officers to resolve concerns raised about the layout, design and appearance ahead of Wyre Forest District Council’s planning meeting yesterday.

The plans were subsequently recommended for approval after a revised draft layout was agreed, which included providing natural surveillance to the parking spaces to prevent vehicle crime.

The developer will build one two-bedroom house, 13 three-bedroom dwellings and six with four bedrooms on the site, now called Silverwoods.

It also wants to be build nine affordable homes, which would include two with two bedrooms, one three-bed and six with four bedrooms.

Silverwoods was bought by regeneration specialist St Francis Group in 2006, following the closure of British Sugar’s operation in 2004.

St Francis has demolished the former sugar beet processing and production facility, including two 70-metre high silos, and obtained planning consent for a mixed-use scheme, including new homes, employment uses, leisure and retail.
