FORMER Sealine workers have attended a second “SOS meeting” as a claim for compensation is due to be lodged at the end of this month.

The meeting, hosted by trade union Community, was held last Friday at Kidderminster Harriers Sports and Social Club.

The union believes the 234 people made redundant in April, after the luxury boat manufacturer went into administration, are entitled to money through a protective pay award and must put forward claims before July 22.

Community West Midlands campaign manager Gavin Miller said: “The meeting went well, we were able to update our members but it was also a chance for people to find out more about us.

“There was a mixture of feelings. In regard to the work we were doing it was very positive but the people there on Friday were generally the people who have still not found work and in that respect we were still hearing some tough stories and it is not easy.

“We believe they are all entitled to a claim.”

The meeting was held a week after administrators Baker Tilly announced the Sealine brand had been sold and boat building would be shipped overseas. The factory, off Worcester Road, is being cleared out by the remaining 34 employees ready to be put on the market.
