Adults could be in for a hair- raising time during Kidderminster Arts Festival (KAF) this year. The programme is packed with events to suit all ages and tastes. On Saturday, August 10, (the opening day of the festival) Needless Allies are performing their show, By the Hair of Her Chin.

It is aimed at adults and presents the sad, sordid and sometimes sinful tales of hairy females in a time gone by. Audiences can catch them during the afternoon in a tent in Worcester Street.

On Friday, August 16, Limbo will be really pushing the boundaries of human physical and mental limits. It is a cross between a show and a social experiment when four ‘occupants’ spend 12 hours in a box and undertake a series of testing and challenging tasks. The group, which has just played the Edinburgh Festival, will be at the Town Hall between 8am and 8pm. There will be a live web stream throughout the day.

For those that prefer to make their own art and explore new and exciting art forms there will be the chance to participate in an extremely diverse series of workshops run by experts. Freedom, which is a workshop run by Collective Unconsciousness, takes place on Friday, August 23. It is set to be a real eye-opener as it allows participants to explore their own personal and social freedom.

Other workshops on offer include a Mamma Mia! film and dance workshop and ‘Mash up a masterpiece’ in which you will take a tired old piece of art and re-work it into a modern masterpiece with no experience or materials required. Both take place on Wednesday, August 14. For those that wish to be doubly creative there is the opportunity to explore the synergy of cross-discipline art forms with ‘Paint and Write’ on Sunday, August 18. This workshop requires no experience or materials.

On Monday, August 19, you can either drop some beats with the DJ workshop or for the more traditional you can beat a drum... or two... or three at the drumming workshop in the capable hands of a professional drum tutor.

KAF runs from Saturday, August 10 until Monday, August 26 and is organised by Wyre Forest District Council.

Loz Samuels, the authority’s arts and play development officer said: “The venues and the events are now booked so all we need now is ‘YOU’ to come along and make KAF’s 10th year the biggest and best yet!

“These events are just the tip of the KAF13 iceberg so make sure to keep your eyes and ears open for more KAF information. There are brochures bursting at the seams with a colourful and diverse assemblage of events. These are available in public buildings all around the district.”
