Newlyweds Hayley and Neil Bradley topped off their whirlwind romance by securing a fabulous Taylor Wimpey home through the Help to Buy scheme – just two days after becoming man and wife!

The sweethearts had first met as children but lost touch during their teenage years before being reunited 13 months ago, falling in love and then getting hitched on June 22.

Hayley and Neil were then able to secure the family-size home of their dreams the following Monday at Taylor Wimpey’s brand new Baldwin Gardens development in Stourport.

Thanks to the Government’s Help to Buy scheme, all they needed was a 5% deposit and a 75% loan-to-value mortgage – which meant they could afford their ideal new home much sooner than they ever thought possible.

“We decided to speak to a mortgage advisor at our local bank about buying our first home a fortnight before our wedding,” says Hayley, 30, a dental nurse/hairdresser. “We were really keen to become homeowners together as soon after our big day as possible.

“The meeting was a shock to the system and we left the bank feeling downhearted at the prospect of being stuck in rented accommodation for a long time while we saved up the hefty deposit normally needed to buy a property.

“But later that day, Neil’s father Paul saw an advert in the local paper for Help to Buy at Baldwin Gardens – it was exactly the good news we needed and gave us fresh hope that we would be able to afford our own family home after all!”

Hayley and Neil visited the development the next day to speak to a sales executive about the ins and outs of buying a Taylor Wimpey home with the Government’s Help to Buy scheme.

Just over two weeks later – and two days after their wedding day – the couple went back to the development to officially reserve their brand new family home!

“Help to Buy meant we were able to secure a three-bedroom detached house at Baldwin Gardens with just a 5% deposit,” says Neil, 30, who works in customer services at Birmingham Airport.

“Our new home is everything we had hoped for – the property has plenty of space and a lovely garden, plus it is right next to the park and there are good schools in the area for when we have children.

“We could have been struggling to save up the deposit to secure a place like this for a long time to come – but thanks to Help to Buy and Taylor Wimpey, we’re now looking forward to picking up the keys to our first family home later this year!”

Under Help to Buy, a Government loan of up to 20% is provided to help eligible customers purchase a new-build property up to the value of £600,000, meaning they only need a 75% loan-to-value mortgage and a 5% deposit. There is no salary cap for buyers using the scheme and it is available to both first-time buyers and those looking to move on from an existing property.

There’s a selection of family-size homes now available for sale at Baldwin Gardens, including three-bedroom houses from £174,995 and four-bedroom detached properties from £234,995.

The new homes enjoy a convenient and peaceful location on the site of the former Lucy Baldwin Hospital off Olive Grove, Stourport, with the historic town centre’s handsome Georgian buildings, regenerated canal basin and scenic riverside walks just a short stroll away.

To find out more about the Help to Buy at Baldwin Gardens, property-seekers should visit the sales and marketing suite, located off Olive Grove, and open Thursday to Monday from 10am to 5pm.
