A VICIOUS dog on dog attack in Stourport, described by a vet as “the worst I have had to deal with in 36 years”, has sparked a police investigation.

A West Mercia Police spokesman confirmed officers were taking statements after receiving complaints about two dogs “acting aggressively” and attacking other canines on a field known locally as The Snipes, off the Walshes Estate.

The investigation was sparked by an incident at noon on Monday when Buddy, a two year old husky, ran into the long grass away from owner Michael Adams.

When Mr Adams and a family member, who had been called to search for the dog, found Buddy, both of his back legs had been “savaged”. Mr Adams said he had seen two dogs running from the scene towards a woman believed to be their owner.

The two dogs were believed to be a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and a Husky.

Buddy was taken to Bay Tree Vets in Stourport. Vet Bob Green told The Shuttle: “It is probably the worst dog to dog attack I have had to deal with in 36 years.

“It has been cut on both hindquarters and quite a lot of damage has been done. It is similar to what I have seen in sheep savaged by dogs on farms, the wounds were quite horrific.

“Buddy has done very well, when it came here the nurses saw the damage and the dog was straight on the operating table and it took us three hours to clear it up. He has been very brave.”

Police sgt Jan Shore added: “The injuries inflicted on the dog are extremely nasty and we can clearly understand why the owners are so upset.

“We have received several complaints about two dogs acting aggressively and attacking other dogs on land known locally as The Snipes over the past few months. We are now taking statements and carrying out a full investigation.

“We would remind people that under the Dangerous Dogs Act it is illegal to let a dog be dangerously out of control either in a public place or a private place where permission has not been given for the dog to be, such as a neighbour’s house or garden.”

Anyone with information should call PC Steve Thomas at Stourport Police Station on 101, quoting 70-N-100713.
