FIVE hundred guests visited the Bewdley School showcase to celebrate a year of success in the art and music departments.

The showcase of student’s work raised £1,300 for school funds with a raffle, family portrait photography, craft fair stalls and student enterprise stalls.

Work on display included crafted designer furniture, paintings, textiles, ceramics and live music.

Mayor of Bewdley Linda Candlin visited the show and gave out the prizes for the Transition Primary Art Competition, which was won by Catherine McKenzie, of Bewdley Primary School.

Catherine created an image based on the competition theme My First Day.

Mrs Candlin said: “It was a fantastic day and I have spread the word about the fantastic work from all departments. Well done to everyone for making this day a very special one.”

There was also a poetry reading by Jane Weir who gave a talk about her new book Walking the Block, a poetic biography of the textile designers Phyllis Barron and Dorothy Larcher.

The school choir performed throughout the afternoon including an original song they had written with composer and songwriter Stacey Blythe that reflected 400 years of life in Bewdley.
