A WYRE Forest District councillor will be asking an urgent question at tonight’s full council meeting about discussions to transfer Worcestershire County Council services to North Worcestershire districts.

Labour leader Jamie Shaw will be raising concerns about how much Wyre Forest District Council leaders know about discussions that have taken place between Bromsgrove District and Redditch Borough councils about the possible transfer of services.

Mr Shaw said: “Worcestershire County Council Labour leader Peter McDonald phoned me up to ask if I was aware that representatives of Bromsgrove and Redditch councils were meeting with Department for Communities and Local Government in London.

“They were discussing the transfer of services from county council to North Worcestershire, which includes Wyre Forest.

“What we’re seeking is the extent to which John Campion knew what was going on. It’s all being done without the full glare of publicity. That’s not a good thing.”

Wyre Forest District Council is already in a series of joint service arrangements with other district councils including economic development, traffic wardens, buildings control and environmental health.

It is unclear which services may be affected by the transfer or if they will affect Wyre Forest.
