A TEAM of Kidderminster students have made the final of Subway’s Design a Sub challenge.

The competition invited young entrepreneurs to design and market a new six-inch sub, based on the theme of #heartfeltsubs.

King Charles I School’s team of Lewis Modley, Daniel Farman and Matthew Gannon produced a Brotherly Love sub, which contained Italian bread, chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, honey mustard sauce and Monterey cheddar.

Lewis now faces a nerve-wracking Dragon’s Den-style pitch to a panel of Subway specialists at The Pavilion, Birmingham on Tuesday, December 3.

This year’s competition attracted more than 40 entries, which have been whittled down to a shortlist of six.

Finalists are competing for the chance to see their sub and marketing material launched in Subway stores across the Midlands during February, 2014, as well as winning £1,000 worth of Amazon vouchers.

Heidi Watkins, business studies teacher at King Charles I School, said: “We are so proud that our students have been shortlisted as finalists in the challenge.

“The team have worked really hard to create their sub and it has been a great opportunity for them to put their business skills to the test. The whole school is looking forward to the final and are all rooting for them to win.”

Subway brand entrepreneur Gurpal Showker sat on the judging panel to shortlist the designs and said: “The six teams of finalists should be proud of their achievement in getting so far in the competition. It is a true testament to all of their hard work and creativity. We are looking forward to seeing their creative pitches at the judging day.”
