CARNIVAL funds from June’s event at Brinton Park have boosted Kidderminster Hospital’s scanner appeal by £1,500 and a further £500 has gone to other good causes in the town.

The Severn Area Rescue Association - SARA - has received £300 and the 1st Kidderminster Boys’ Brigade is £200 better off.

Both groups have become regular supporters and helpers at carnival events, including the carnival queen, princess and rosebud competition and the duck race.

Carnival chairman Colin Hill said: “We are a small committee and are very grateful to the support SARA and he boys’ brigade have been able to give us.

“We are also delighted to give the lion’s share of this year’s proceeds to the League of Friends’ scanner appeal, as state-of-the art equipment is so important in early and accurate diagnosis of life-threatening conditions.”

The friends group wants to raise £65,000 for software for the hospital’s new CT (computed tomography) scanner and £60,000 for building work, which has been necessary to house the updated model.

So far, the appeal has raised more than £45,000 from various fund-raising events around Wyre Forest.

The carnival, held on Saturday June 22, was hailed a success, as morning rain showers gave way to a brighter afternoon, enjoyed by several thousand people.

Mr Hill added: “We are already beginning to plan next year’s carnival, which will be on Saturday June 21. Anyone with ideas, or who would like to book a stall or provide entertainment, should get in touch.”
