VULNERABLE children from stressful or disruptive backgrounds have been given the chance to flourish through a nurture group at a Kidderminster school.
St Mary’s CofE Primary School has been providing nurture group intervention for vulnerable children and their families since setting up its Mulberry Bush Nurture Group five years ago .
The group, which uses a family-focused approach, addresses barriers to learning, which arise from social, emotional or behavioural difficulties .
More than 50 children have used the group and have been integrated back into mainstream class .
Wendy Reeves, who runs the group, said: “Adults who have lacked nurturing throughout their lives often feel isolated and unable to evoke change within the family .
The emotional wellbeing of the parent is just as important as that of the child.”
