INVESTIGATIONS are continuing into how a security guard was seriously injured at Kidderminster's Marks & Spencer store.

The 51-year-old remains in the critical care unit at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital following yesterday's attack but his condition has improved and his injuries are no longer life threatening.

A 29-year-old man was arrested nearby shortly after the incident, which happened at 11am, and remains in police custody helping with inquiries.

Detective Inspector Mark Roberts of West Mercia Police said: “The security guard’s injuries were extremely serious.

"The police, his family, friends and colleagues, are very relieved his condition has stabilised, and are grateful to the members of the public who went to his aid before the arrival of the paramedics and air ambulance.

“We are still trying to establish exactly what happened and although we have spoken to a number of witnesses, we are continuing to appeal for anyone who saw something in the store or car park near Pizza Hut who has not yet come forward to contact us.

"No matter how insignificant they feel their information is, it could help us piece together how the security guard came by his injuries.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Kidderminster CID on the non-emergency number 101 quoting incident 187-s-270214.
