A GOLF club is hosting its annual fundraising tournament in aid of a Kidderminster charity helping adults with learning disabilities.

The Barchester Open at Burlish Park Golf Club will be raising funds for Our Way Self Advocacy, a charity that has supported Cath Giblin, the daughter of two golf club members.

Organisers say they are inspired by Miss Giblin, who helps out at golf club events, as she shows great self-confidence despite having the rare genetic disorder Williams Syndrome.

Her condition means the 31-year-old has a wide range of learning difficulties, a lack of understanding of money and a simplistic view of life.

It also means she is vulnerable as she can be too trusting and is extremely sensitive.

Her father Alan Giblin, of Kidderminster said: "Our Way Self Advocacy was established to get the young people together and to give them a chance to talk about their problems.

"There seems to be plenty for school children but once they get to the adult point, they start to get cut off."

The charity has helped Miss Giblin move out of her parents' home and into a secure flat with a friend.

Mr Giblin added: "The club members always comment on how self-confident she is and how it's improved over the course of knowing her."

Organiser Michael Dimbylow said: "Cath is a brilliant person who has overcome her disability. She's a great leader and an example of what can be achieved.

"The club members always welcome her with open arms. She comes and helps me do the raffle. I just find her very motivational.

"I want to support Our Way Self Advocacy after seeing what a good job they do."

The golf event will also be raising money through a raffle for Dream It, Believe It, Achieve it, a charity that supports disabled sports.

It was set up by Mr Dimbylow's son Paralympic footballer Matt Dimbylow, who was struck with a Parkinson's-like condition when he received a head injury playing football.

"He came back from that in a very positive way," Mr Dimbylow added. "I'm proud of him."

The Barchester Open, sponsored by Barchester Healthcare, will take place on Friday, June 27 from 9am.

It costs £15 per pair for members and £20 a pair for non-members and prizes include a free round of golf and a Citroen DS3 for the hole-in-one competition.

Last year's event raised £1,500 for charity.
