A STOURPORT couple have turned a craft hobby into a business.

Matthew Bing and Jenny Burford started selling handmade gifts on facebook just over a year ago and after a huge increase in orders have decided to open a shop.

The Taylor Rose outlet, which is named after the couple’s son and Mrs Burford’s daughter, has opened at De Beers craft and garden centre near Kidderminster.

Mrs Burford said: “First of all we thought it would be a hobby and we doubted people would be interested.

“We made a few items and put them out there and people started buying them.

“It has taken off from there with word of mouth and within 14 months we had 5,000 likes on facebook and we could not keep up.

“It has been an absolute stepping stone for us and we just cannot believe how far we have come.”

The shop, which opens on Wednesdays to Sundays from 10am to 4pm, is selling gifts such as cushions, paintings, shabby chic furniture, wooden ornaments and candles.

All of its products will be handmade and many can be personalised with names and dates.

It will also stock items from other crafters, both locally and from across the country.

Mrs Burford graduated from Wolverhampton University with a degree in interior design and, after several years working in an architect studio, rediscovered her passion for designing gifts and fabrics through the Taylor Rose business.
