A CHARITY worker in Kidderminster has raised £1,300 for children’s charity Mentor Link after taking part in a skydive.

Jean Young, appointment administrator with the Stourport-based charity, took to the skies on Saturday and jumped out of a plane 13,000ft above the ground.

Mrs Young, who braved thunderstorms and rain to complete the jump near Brackley, Northamptonshire, said: “It was great fun and I have always wanted to do a sky dive so would recommend the experience to anyone.

“I have done a few other fundraising activities, such as white water rafting and sometimes I do think ‘Why don’t I just bake cakes?’ “The jump was exhilarating and the fact the weather was bad spurred me on as I had come all that way and I didn’t want to back out - I just wanted to do it.

“I also wanted to complete it so I could raise the funds for Mentor Link, which is an important local charity supporting children in schools.”

Formed in 2002, Mentor Link provides weekly one-to-one support to children and young people across Worcestershire by providing them with a volunteer mentor.

The aim of the mentoring is to provide an informal ear to 350 young people each week to improve confidence, relationships, emotional resilience, and engagement.

As part of her job with Mentor Link, Mrs Young works within three primary schools in Kidderminster, making sure appointments between the mentors and the children are taking place.
