TAP dance is coming to the stage as part of Kidderminster Operatic and Dramatic Society’s latest production.

The group will perform the humorous musical play Stepping Out at The Rose Theatre at 7.30pm each evening from Tuesday, September 9 to Saturday, September 13.

Richard Harris wrote the play, which tells the story of beginner tap-dancing class progressing from a hesitant start to a public performance, in 1984 and seven years later it become famous as a film starring Liza Minnelli and Julie Walters.

Pat Scully, the society’s newly appointed patron and director of Stepping Out, said: “In selecting this play we knew the cast would have to attend tap-dancing rehearsals in addition to learning their lines and routines, a commitment that started in June.

“The weeks running up to the production will be a hive of activity including costume preparation, set building, planning the lighting and sound and undertaking publicity, and then during the week of the play our dedicated backstage and front of house team will step to the fore.

“For every show we do there a numerous members of the society giving their all which helps to produce performances that our audiences return to see again and again.”
