AN INQUEST has been opened into the tragic mother who was killed when a blaze ripped through her Kidderminster flat.

Sandra Nowocinska, aged 22, died on December 1 with her family at her side, following the suspected arson attack in her apartment above a shop in Horsefair.

Her five-year-old son, who was also injured in the fire, remains in a serious but stable condition in Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Worcestershire Coroners Court opened the inquiry into Sandra’s death on December 16 before it was adjourned for a later date.

Police launched an investigation following the fire, which broke out at around 9.30pm on November 27. A 41-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident but has been bailed pending further inquiries.

Sandra was rescued from the flat and given CPR at the scene for around 20 minutes before she was rushed to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where she passed away four days later.

Tributes from shocked members of the community poured on to social media and many expressing their condolences to her family.

People in the community also rallied around her son and his father Fabian with appeals for donations to help them in the aftermath of the tragedy.

The Facebook group "Donations for Victims of Kidderminster Fire" emerged with hundreds of people joining and offering furniture, clothes, money and even Christmas presents to the family.
