A LOCAL mobile DJ celebrated his 50th birthday by raising over £500 for two charities close to his heart.

Stuart Cheshire, of the Rock, near Bewdley, organised the fundraiser to celebrate his big birthday at the Bar Arches in Bewdley on Sunday (January 11) to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness and the British Legion.

Mr Cheshire hoped to raise £500 to be split between the two charities, by asking people to put a pound in a bucket instead of buying him a card.

The event included a karaoke, disco and a charity raffle with prizes donated by local businesses including Tipplers and the Deli, both in Bewdley.

Mr Cheshire said: “It was a great night, with a great atmosphere.

“I still have some more money to collect in, but at the moment it looks like we have clearly gone over the £500 target.

"I was touched by all the great feeling that was in the bar. It made all the bad things in the world insignificant for an evening.

"I was amazed at how generous everyone was especially in January.

“I would like to thank the staff at the Arches and all the regulars, known as the Arches Army, for all their support."

Mr Cheshire chose Breast Cancer Awareness to honour friends and family who have fought the disease and the British Legion due to spending 32 years in the army himself.
