COLLEAGUES at Midcounties Co-operative Food stores in Wyre Forest wore red to work as part of a charity initiative to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

Marking the charity’s ‘Wear It. Beat It’ day on Friday, February 6, colleagues at 12 stores in Worcestershire, including the Kidderminster, Stourport and Bewdley branches, each made a donation to put aside their usual uniforms for the day, raising a fantastic total of £1,217.

A series of fun events were also held in the stores to encourage shoppers to add their donations in support of the fundraising push. The activity came as individuals and businesses across the country took part in the day’s events, which looked to raise money to fund the British Heart Foundation’s life-saving research into heart and circulatory disease.

Bob Richens, district manager at the Midcounties Co-operative Food, said: “As a co-operative, we have an ongoing commitment to hosting and supporting charity events, so we were pleased to take part in ‘Wear It. Beat It.’ for the British Heart Foundation.

“One in four people nationwide are lost to heart or circulatory disease, so this is clearly an issue that matters to our colleagues and customers, and we are pleased to have done our bit to raise money for this very worthy cause.”
