STUDENTS from a Wolverley school are delighted to have finished fourth and received six excellence awards in the recent Rock Challenge event at Portsmouth Guildhall.
In total, 45 students from Wolverley CE Secondary School took part in the national performance competition, which featured nine other schools from across southern England. The competition was judged by a panel of professional dancers and the school was thrilled to receive Awards for Excellence in six different categories – stage use, dance, soundtrack, costuming character, contcept and healthy schools.
The Wolverley students’ performance was inspired by the book ‘In the Night Circus’ by Erin Morgenstem. It was based around the idea of ‘fitting in’ and reflected modern society through the theme of a circus. The dancers represented different characters, such as clowns, gymnasts, ringmasters, circus animals and mime artists.
Bryn Thomas, head teacher, said: “Since September, students and teachers have been working extremely hard on their performances.
“The dancers really got into the characters they were playing and their dedication has certainly paid off. I’m extremely proud of how well students from across different year groups worked together and it really shows what can be achieved when they all support each other.
“Huge congratulations to everyone involved.”
