THE sun shone in time for this year’s annual Discover Bewdley Spring Fair over the Bank Holiday.

Visitors and residents of Bewdley packed into the streets on Sunday and Monday to celebrate spring, and Bewdley Development Trust, organisers of the 10th fair, were delighted at the turnout.

Katherine Davis, trust manager, said: “Everywhere you turned people were exploring Bewdley past and present, and enjoying themselves.

“People queued up to climb St Anne’s Church tower and more than 400 people donated close to £1,000 in aid of the victims of the Nepal Earthquake disaster.

“The event had wonderful support from local organisations and businesses, and the trust would like to thank everyone who took part.”

Ellie Hooper, who co-ordinates Bewdley’s monthly Local Produce Market, said: “We had a fantastic day – the market was so busy, stallholders sold out of produce, others had to restock and some had their best days’ trading ever.

“Customers showed their appetite for fresh, locally produced food.”

Bewdley Civic Society, the Footpaths Association and Worcestershire County Council led guided walks and traditional activities were on offer in the town’s museum. Barnaby and Maggie, the Spring Fair rabbits from Fat Fluffs Rabbit Rescue, proved extremely popular with children and parents, as did face painting the local bodgers’ wood turning demonstrations.

The most popular event of the weekend was the ‘Bewdley Salad Challenge’ on Monday afternoon, won by the Hop Pole’s sous-chef, Todd Turner.

Chris Griffin, trust volunteer organiser, said: “Four exciting chefs entertained a large crowd and produced tasty and well presented salads.

“They demonstrated that there are some great places to eat out in Bewdley. Congratulations to Todd who won converted Bewdley Salad challenge trophy.

"Our thanks go to Tony from Bewdley Farm Shop and Christian from the Deli @ Bewdley for supplying the ingredients.”

Visitors were soaking up the sunshine and riverside atmosphere at the craft and produce market on Severnside South where they enjoyed the sights and sounds of Maypole dancing by the children of St Anne's Primary School and local young buskers 'Swallows' and 'These Lost Minds'.
