SEVERN Trent Water is set to start a £740,000 project, to replace nearly six kilometres of new water pipes at the end of May.

The water company will be starting the majority of the work in the villages of Bayton and Mamble, during the May half term holiday and the summer holidays.

Dave Kiernan, programme engineer, said: “This is essential work we need to carry out in the area to make sure customers continue to receive a reliable water service for years to come.

“We are pleased to have the understanding and support from local residents following a recent drop-in session. We are sorry for any inconvenience the work may cause.

“We will be working with the local community throughout the project and we would like to thank them for their patience and cooperation.”

Work to install new water pipes, which follows a series if incidents involving burst pipes, will start on Tuesday, May 26, in Clows Top Road, from the junction of Bayton Road. This is expected to last three weeks, before the work will continue on private land.

During the summer holidays, work will start on Bayton Road, from Mill Farm towards Mamble, which is expected to take around four weeks. The remainder of the work will happen on private land throughout August.

Mr Kiernan added: “This work is really important to make sure that water supplies for our customers are reliable going forward.

“We know that we may cause some inconvenience for the local community, but we won’t be there for long, and this work will help us to keep the water running for our customers for many years to come.”
