A NEW 24 hour electric vehicle chargepoint has been unveiled at Kidderminster’s Weavers Wharf Shopping Centre.

Worcestershire County Council hope the chargepoint will encourage residents to switch to more environmentally friendly motors.

The Kidderminster-based site, where parking charges apply, will allow drivers to stay in the charging bay for up to an hour and is one of 12 rapid chargepoints installed across the county.

There is also the option of using the existing network of slower public chargepoints which will charge a car in two to three hours.

Councillor Anthony Blagg, county council cabinet member for the environment, said: “The council’s sustainability team have worked closely with Chargermaster and Weavers Wharf to provide a facility which supports the sustainable choices of motorists.

“Electric vehicles cause less pollution and are kinder to the environment, in addition to being more economical to run.”

Jackie Roberts, Weavers Wharf centre manager, said: “We are really pleased to have negotiated a chargepoint at the centre, which will enable customers to power their vehicles quickly when away from home.”

Other chargepoints have been installed in Droitwich, Redditch, Evesham and Worcester.
