MOTORISTS and visitors to Bewdley town centre are being advised they could face disruption as electrical works get underway in October.

Western Power Distribution (WPD) will be installing a new substation and underground electricity cables for five days in October and three days in November to support the development of the new Bewdley Medical Centre.

The company has arranged for two drop-in sessions to be held in September at the town’s museum to answer any queries about the work people might have.

The first phase will take place between October 19-23 and will traffic lights will be in operation and Dowles Road and Dog Lane to enable contractors Morgan Sindall to carry out the work safely.

WPD said no work is due to be carried out over half term week in order to minimise disruption to the town centre during this busy time.

Work will then recommence on November 2 and Load Street next to the junction with Welch Gate will be closed until November 4. This is to allow connection of the new cables by WPD and signed diversions will be in place.

Matt Bailey, WPD’s Team Manager for the Kidderminster area, said: “While this work is being undertaken, our aim is to keep any disruption to an absolute minimum.

“We have been speaking with Worcestershire County Council, Bewdley Town Council and the Highways Agency to agree on a cable route and road diversions which create the least disruption for traffic flow in the area.

“We have also kept customers and business along the route informed by letter.”

He added: “A drop in clinic is also being held on September 2 and 4 at the town museum between 10am and 2pm where members of staff will be on hand to deal with any enquiries about the work.”
