A COMMUNITY group that supports lonely senior citizens across Wyre Forest celebrated the first anniversary of its luncheon club.

Wyre Forest Reaching Out celebrated the anniversary with a lunch at St George’s Annexe, in Kidderminster, on Monday, November 2.

The group works to help alleviate loneliness and isolation amongst the elderly people in the district.

Councillor Rose Bishop, the Mayor of Kidderminster, joined the team and senior citizens for the celebrations which included a special lunch and entertainment from ‘Me and My Girl’.

Reaching Out opened the weekly Lunch Club catering for some 28 people every Monday a year ago, and has recently launched a second lunch session on a Friday, which is also proving popular.

The team also run friendship groups in several venues in Wyre Forest.

A spokesman for the group said: “A birthday cake and ‘goodies’ helped us celebrate in style.

“The lunch club has proved to be a resounding success with tasty meals dished up by our amazing volunteer ‘chefs’ and a warm welcome from our Reaching Out team.”

In August, the team opened a new office at Florida House in Comberton Hill, which provides a base for manager, Pat Simmonds, project co-ordinator, Glen Newitt, and volunteers to carry out their work from.
