A WOMAN married the paramedic that brought her dad back to life after he collapsed from cardiac arrest in a Bewdley street while walking his dogs.

Sam Billett first met Mike Horton when he arrived in an ambulance to treat her dad, Colin Billett, after he had a heart attack and went into cardiac arrest four years ago.

"He was out with my sister and he's only been out for about 10 minutes when my sister came back," Sam said.

"She put him in the recovery position straight away and came and got me and we called an ambulance.

"First response came first, them Mike followed in an ambulance. We started to give him CPR but it wasn't working because his heart had stopped. When Mike got there, he shocked him and he came back.

"The chances of someone surviving out of hospital are very, very minimal. If you haven't got the people straight away, there's almost no chance, my dad survived. Mike said it was the most amazing thing he'd seen."

Mr Billett was technically dead for two minutes. After he was brought back, he was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital, where he was given further treatment. The paramedic and Sam then bumped into each other as Mike came to check on the patient. He gave Sam his number so she could call him with updates on his condition, but when they got chatting they made plans to meet up at a pub and realised they liked each other.

Thirty-year-old Sam and 39-year-old Mike got married at the Fox Inn, in Stoulton, on October 24, and honeymooned in Wales before heading off to Venice and Rome.

"At the time it just happened, but then it just started dawning on us that his was who it was that saved my dad," the now Sam Horton added.

"We've all got Mike in our lives now because of this and that's great."

Mr Billet, who was fit and healthy before the incident, remembers little about his rescue.

He said: "I remember saying to my daughter, 'it's half past eight, let's take the dogs for a walk then we can settle down for the night'. We each took a dog and after about five minutes, I said I didn't feel very well. She said I should go home and I said I didn't think I could make it home and I just looked for somewhere to lie down. And I woke up an hour or so later in the hospital.

"The doctor asked me how I felt and I said 'I know I have been to the other side'.

"When Mike started visiting me and Sam, it was weird as I'd never met him but there was this complete stranger who I owed so much.

"He's a super bloke and I'm immeasurably happy my daughter married him, but it was a but spooky until I got used to it."
