A SCHOOL in Kidderminster was evacuated after emergency services were called to an incident involving chemicals.

Crews from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident at Holy Trinity School, in Birmingham Road, at 11.40am this morning (Tuesday, November 14).

A spokesman from HWFRS confirmed the incident was caused by a mixture of chemicals meeting in a common drain.

West Mercia Police were in attendance to assist with a safe evacuation of the building and the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

West Midlands Ambulance Service assessed nine children and one staff member at the scene, however no one required hospitalisation.

A spokesman from HWFRS said: “Firefighters entered the building in breathing apparatus to assess the situation and found the incident to be restricted to the laboratory.

“The room was fully ventilated and pupils were later let back into the building at around 1pm.”

A WMAS said: "The school was evacuated after a number of pupils reported feeling nauseous and having sore throats.

"Nine pupils, all aged between 12 and 16, and also a staff member from the school were assessed by medics.

"Following assessment they were all discharged and did not require further treatment.

"The trust dispatched two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the trusts Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene.

"All pupils were allowed back in the school after a short while following consultation with the fire service."

School headteacher, Pamela Leek-Wright, thanked the emergency services.

She said: "As headteacher, I would like to thank the emergency services for their prompt and professional response.

"A huge vote of thanks to St George's School who opened up their hall to our younger students to keep them warm, offering toast and hot chocolate.

"The children were well behaved throughout and should be commended, responding well to what was asked of them.

"The younger students were kept busy with different activities and all students treated it as an extended break."
