A BUSINESSMAN has organised a huge summer event in a Kidderminster park to replace the now defunct town carnival.

Brinton’s Bash will be held at Brinton’s Park on June 4 from 12noon to 9pm and feature a host of entertainers, activities, bouncy castles and a funfair.

The event is the brainchild of David Griffin, who runs Quads N Castles that hire out bouncy castles, Velcro walls, children’s quad bikes and rodeo bulls for events.

He said he wanted to put a big community event on in the town following the demise of Kidderminster Carnival, which held its last show in 2014.

ABOUT 70 people were evacuated from businesses and homes around Albert Street and Prospect Hill after a suspicious package was discovered on a business premises located on Albert Street.

The package has now been confirmed safe and the roads have been reopened after officers coronered off a 100m area around the building.

The British Army's Explosives Ordnance Disposal, a specialist unit responsible for counter terrorist bomb disposal, attended the scene.

People were told to avoid the area until the situation was resolved.

A SUPERMARKET chain hoping to build a store on a mostly empty town centre site in Bromsgrove has been given extra time to make its case for the development.

The plans, for a new Aldi supermarket, had been due to go before Bromsgrove District Council’s planning committee on Monday, December 7, and were recommended for refusal by council officers, but now the council is offering the company an extension, with a final decision expected next year.

POLICE are appealing for help after a 14-year-old boy was assaulted on his bus journey home from school.

The suspects followed the teen off the number 9 bus when it stopped outside Vets 4 Pets on Stourbridge Road, Halesowen and punched him twice.

He fought back, and managed to escape to a nearby petrol station.

A HALESOWEN drink driver who was racing his sports car at 100mph when he lost control and ploughed into a bus stop killing an Oldbury student has been jailed.

Sukhvinder Mannan, aged 33, was behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi Revolution trying to get the better of Inderjit Singh who was driving a high performance BMW M3 and their speed terrified other road users.

The two men undertook and overtook within inches of each other on a dual carriageway which had a 40mph limit and witnesses described it as something out of a Fast and Furious film.

PROTECTING national security and an obligation to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with France were just some of the reasons Dudley North MP Ian Austin voted in favour of extending military action to Syria.

The government motion against so-called Islamic State militants - also referred to as Daesh - in the war-torn country was passed last night (Wednesday) 397 to 223 after a 10 hour debate in the House of Commons.

Before making his decision, which defied Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn's position, Mr Austin said he "listened carefully to people in Dudley" after sending surveys to 5,000 constituents, asking for their views.
