A TAKEAWAY has taken away a gold standard as part of a Healthier Choices Food Award scheme.

Local takeaway Marlpool Diner in Willowfield Drive, Kidderminster, was given the award in recognition of excellent food hygiene standards, supporting customers with healthier menu choices, reducing food wastage and the use of local food suppliers by Worcestershire Regulatory Services.

First opened in 2006, Marlpool Diner has established a superb reputation for providing good quality food at affordable prices in the town and the surrounding areas.

The business strives to provide a variety of tasty food to appeal to adults and children alike using only top quality produce.

The secret of success according to the diner is to use low calorie ingredients and healthier cooking oils in the majority of their dishes. Smaller portion sizes and a children’s menu are available too.

The gold award for Marlpool follows a consistent Level 5 award in the Food Standards Agency rating scheme since 2009 for food hygiene.

Additionally they were a West Midlands regional finalist in this year’s British Takeaway Awards which was held at The Savoy Hotel in London.

Councillor Sally Chambers, Wyre Forest District Council’s cabinet member for health, well-being and housing, said: “It is great to see more food businesses across the district adapting their menus to include healthier options for all. Not only does this bring healthy benefits, it also allows customers a wider choice of ways to enjoy their favourite food.”
