A WYRE Forest family support organisation has received funding from the Big Local DY10 Partnership to support families living in parts of Horsefair, Broadwaters and Greenhill.

The three-year project, between Home-Start Wyre Forest and Big Local DY10, will offer families a locally based ‘family group’ setting where young people and their parents or guardians will be supported with afterschool activities including homework club, creative play, family reading, children’s library and signposting services.

Belinda Darby, Home-Start manager, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this grant to offer group services to local families with school aged children for the coming three-year period.

“This will enable our staff and volunteers to provide a safe place for families to meet, help with homework or other tasks, provide activities for families to complete together and a hub for other agencies to offer support.

“We will be working closely with the Big Local DY10 Partnership to ensure we meet the needs of their residents and offer volunteering opportunities to those community members who would like to become involved in their local Home-Start service.”

Brenda Lines, chair of the Big Local DY10 Partnership, added: “Investing in local families in our area can only benefit the future community.”

The ‘family groups’ offer two afterschool sessions per week, 46 weeks of the year, and will be led by a coordinator and supported by Home-Start volunteers, with the majority of volunteers residing in the Big Local area.
