FREE books are on offer from Stourport and Kidderminster libraries in a double celebration to mark World Book Night and the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death.

Stourport library will plant 15 book titles around the town as part of the annual celebration on Saturday, April 23, and to mark the life of the playwright - who died in 1616.

Kidderminster and Hagley Library will also be taking part in the day by offering free books, encouraging a "Read Me, Keep Me, Pass me on…" ethos to inspire new readers.

Lynne Shave, Service Lead – Adult Readers, said: "Our World Book Night events are for everyone, but we are particularly keen to tempt people who don't normally borrow books into our libraries and to inspire them to take up reading because there are so many positive benefits from doing so, and it's enjoyable and it's free!

"Attendance is free at all of our World Book Night events and several of libraries have got lots of free books to give away too.

"We will also be encouraging people to become library members if they aren't already as this gives free access to thousands of fantastic books, e-books and magazines."

Coffee shops in Kidderminster and stalls at the Family Fun Day at St George's Park, which runs from noon until 4pm, will also offer free books to mark the Reading Agency event.

Stourport library is keen to hear about the discoveries of books, and where they have travelled to, by emailing stourportlib@worcestershire.gov.uk.
