A KIDDERMINSTER pub is set to host the first Market Tavern Legends show, 20 years after the original venue was forced to close its doors.
The Boars Head will stage the event on Saturday (May 14), to commemorate popular 80s and 90s pub, the Market Tavern, which was located in Comberton Hill.
The premises closed down in 1996 when it made way for a new building development - with its closure even making headlines in NME magazine after regulars appealed for the venue to be saved.
Established and up-and-coming bands including rock icons Radiohead, new wave band the Alarm, indie-rockers Carter USM, and 80s group Chumbawumba, all previously played at the venue.
Two former Midlands bands, Dr Bullfrog and the Pale Kings – who were regular performers – have now re-formed in celebration of the landmark show.
Rich Morley, lead singer of the Pale Kings, said: "The Market Tavern was such a special place for so many people and we are honoured to play a legends show.
"I never thought there would be another place in Kidderminster anywhere close to the feel of the Market Tavern but the Boars Head has a similar vibe.
"It is a fitting place for the Pale Kings to make their comeback – we cannot wait."
The Kidderminster group have introduced a new member to their line-up after original band member, Paul Havard, died of cancer two years ago at the age of 44.
The bands will start at around 9pm, with on-the-door tickets costing £3.
