A POPULAR Indian restaurant in Kidderminster has been shut down by health and safety bosses after live cockroaches were discovered at the premises.

Paradise Balti House, in Lower Mill Street, has been closed for more than a week after it was discovered there were cockroaches in the restaurant where food was being stored, prepared, cooked and served.

The owners of the restaurant were recently issued with a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order at Kidderminster Magistrates Court.

The order stated "There is evidence of a live cockroach infestation throughout the food business including the main kitchen, side food store, first floor food store, restaurant area and bar where food is being stored, prepared, cooked and served."

Disgusted diner, David Colins, said: "Health and safety found that there were live cockroaches in the restaurant.

"It makes me really sick - I have been eating there for a very long time.

"None of my family will be going to eat there again. We used to go there every few weeks with friends and family.

"If the restaurant cannot control health risks it is not up to standard - they do not deserve to be open."

Another diner, who did not wish to be named, added: "It is disgusting that they continued to serve food and put people at risk."

A sign displayed in the door of the eatery said: "We will be closed for seven to 10 days due to unforseen circumstances.

"Improvements and upgrades are being made for better standards and service. Sorry for inconvenience."

A spokesman for Wyre Forest District Council confirmed that the restaurant is still closed.
