SALES of a unique ale at this weekend's Cookley Beer Festival are set to raise much-needed funds for a Kidderminster charity.

Kinver Brewery has prepared the "Spirit of 77" ale especially for the annual beer festival - which runs between Saturday, May 27, and Monday, May 29 - with a percentage of sales being donated to Crackerjacks Children's Trust.

Crackerjacks Children's Trust, who assist families with disabled children by providing specialist equipment and respite breaks, are trying to raise funds to buy a specially adapted holiday home so that disabled children and their families can enjoy a well deserved break.

Dave Jones, chairman of Cookley Sports Club, said: "Kinver Brewery have prepared a unique ale for the festival called "Spirit of 77" which will be showcased at the festival and throughout the summer, with a percentage of sales being donated to Crackerjacks Children's Trust."

Terry Bull, co-founder of Crackerjacks, added: "We appreciate the support from the festival and the Cookley Sports Club committee for choosing the trust.

"We rely on donations such as these to enable us to provide help for as many children and families as possible."

Cookley Beer Festival, which takes place at Cookley Sports Club, in Lea Lane, will have around 100 beers and ciders, along with Prosecco and Belgian larger bars.

A variety of food will also be available, including a pig roast, BBQ, cake stall and Black Country pork pies.

The festival will also have a a number of musical performances over the weekend, with headliners the Melvin Hancox Band, Got the T Shirt and local favourites Blind Lemon bringing the festival to a close on Monday.

Entry to Cookley Beer Festival is free and tokens for drinks will be on sale from the club in advance.
