A SERIES of road closures in Wyre Forest has been approved by county council bosses for a contentious cycling event which travels through Worcestershire later this month.

Around 15,000 riders will descend on Worcestershire on Sunday, September 24, for Velo Birmingham – a 100-mile closed roads charity bike ride.

Event organisers, CSM Active, have worked closely with Worcestershire County Council to make sure that the concerns of those people who live and work along the route have been addressed.

Local people have been invited and continue to be able to raise any issues that they have and those discussions have helped shape the final programme of planned road closures for the event.

Councillor Ken Pollock, county council cabinet member for economy and infrastructure, said: "We have spoken to, and listened to, a lot of people who live or work along the route regarding the Velo and who have concerns regarding it.

"CSM have worked closely with us to address these concerns and many of the issues have now been resolved.

"We look forward to giving everyone a warm welcome to Worcestershire on September 24, and we wish all of the riders the very best in their final weeks of preparation."

In the Wyre Forest district and surrounding areas, roads will be closed at various times from 6am to 3.30pm in Caunsall, Wolverley, Kidderminster, Bewdley, Stourport, Chaddesley Corbett, Dunley and Great Witley.
