HUNDREDS of people got into the festive spirit for the popular annual Christmas lights switch on event in the town.

Mayor of Kidderminster Nicky Gale led the Lantern Parade alongside Father Christmas himself and six-year-old Birchen Coppice School pupil Charlie Dixon, who won the Mayor’s Christmas Card competition.

The trio were given the honour of flicking the switch to turn the lights on at the event on November 18 to ensure Kidderminster dazzles throughout the season.

As well as the light switch-on and parade, which saw pupils from town schools take part, visitors were treated to live entertainment and a roadshow from BBC Hereford and Worcester. Rev Rose Lawley also said a prayer for Christmas.

A competition was also launched to find a name for a lady teddy bear. People are asked to submit their suggestions to the Mayor’s Parlour at Kidderminster Town Hall by December 9.

A host of other events are planned to celebrate Christmas in Kidderminster throughout December and for further information, call 01562 732928 or visit www.wyreforestdc.gov/festive.
