A TALENTED Chaddesley Corbett schoolboy footballer is in dreamland after signing for his favourite team West Bromwich Albion.

Winterfold School pupil Frazer Billings has been snapped up by the Baggies’ Academy after impressing during his spell with their under-8 side last year.

His moment was made extra special when he signed for the club in the presence of Albion first-teamers Jonathan Leko, Sam Field and Rekeem Harper, who have come through the club’s youth system themselves.

The eight-year-old has been starring for Kidderminster Lions, helping them win the Stourbridge League U7 and U8 titles in successive seasons.

He joined the Lions’ Soccer School at the age of three and progressed through the ranks where he was spotted by Wolverhampton Wanderers’ scouts who signed him up.

Frazer was playing the U6/U7 Wolves side but the call from his favourite club – who saw him playing for the Lions – was too much to resist.

He has been on the pre-Academy training programme that has seen him play against his counterparts at the likes of West Ham, Fulham and Charlton.

Frazer said he was delighted to join his favourite club, although sad to leave Kidderminster Lions at the end of the season. He added he was extremely grateful to his Lions’ coaches Brian Fellows and Matt Baker for their commitment and support during his time there.

His proud parents Adrian Billings and Sharron Carvill said they were delighted with their son’s blossoming career.

Mr Billings said: “This is a great opportunity for Frazer and with determination, hard work and commitment, we look forward to watching progress and development at WBA.

“Frazer has been given a great opportunity and as long as he is happy and enjoying his football, that is the most important thing at his age. Exciting times are ahead!”

And James Brinkley, Winterfold’s Head of Boys’ PE, added: “It is great to see Frazer making such good progress as a result of the hard work and practise he puts into his football.

“He sets a terrific example for his team mates at School and we wish him all the best with WBA.”
