WORRIED residents have launched a petition to get urgent work carried out to repair a crumbling Kidderminster road.

Dozens of people living in Lea Bank Avenue have canvassed Worcestershire County Council and ward member Tracey Onslow in a bid to get the highway fixed as soon as possible as the condition of the surface is wearing away, leaving potentially hazardous defects.

And their efforts appear to have paid off as the council’s highways team are now due to visit the area to assess the carriageway with a view to carrying out any necessary repairs.

The petition was organised by Lea Bank Avenue residents Bill Wardle and Anthony L’Huillier who have become fed up about the state of the road and fear it will only get worse as motorists often use it as a ‘rat run’ to and from the busy Bewdley Hill.

The petition says: “Residents of Lea Bank Avenue, Kidderminster, wish to express their concern in relation to the extremely poor condition of the road surface and to a lesser extent the footpaths.

“The condition of the road surface immediately prior to the junction with Bewdley Hill can only be described as appalling with the hard core below the tarmac visible in numerous places.”

A Worcestershire County Council spokesperson said: "We can confirm that there will be a site visit tomorrow (Thursday, June 28) to inspect the condition of the carriageway in Lea Bank Avenue.

“Following the site visit, orders will be raised with our contractor to progress any necessary repairs."
