PHOENIX CLUB - At this month's meeting members were entertained by David Tideswell with stories and slides of the garden robin and memorabilia collected over many years.

The lunch venue for Tuesday is the Wok and Roll on Prospect Hill, Kidderminster, meet at noon.

On Tuesday, November 20 the meeting at Trinity Church Centre will feature Andy Casserley with unusual musical Instruments. The meeting will start at 2pm. For more details call 01299 877989.

MINSTER LADIES - The next meeting will be on Wednesday at 2pm at St George's Annexe, Radford Avenue. There is a quiz and a Christmas bring and buy has been arranged. Members and visitors welcome.

HABBERLEY WI - Mrs Liz Davies reported on the lunch with Philip Serrell.

Sue Stone agreed to be nominated for executive committee and was presented with flowers to thank her for the cookery demonstration and lunch in September. She asked for volunteers to help with the Let's Cook' scheme.

Donations for Pennies for Friendship were collected, these go towards helping schemes in the Third World.

Mrs Barbara Maskell talked about the trial and tribulations of getting to Japan for her daughter's wedding.

Competition winners were Edith Sheldon and Greta Mitchell.

The next meeting is on November 1 at 7.30pm, St John's Church Hall, Habberley when Jan Adams takes members on the next stage of sailing the dream'.

CYCLING CLUB - There are two rides this Sunday. The A ride starts at 9am and goes to the Acorn café in Church Stretton. The C ride starts at 9.30am and is a half day ride to Rowberry Garden Centre at Chaddesley Corbett. Both rides leave from The Green, Blakebrook, opposite the hospital. All cyclists will be welcome and should bring a packed lunch for the A ride.

On Tuesday evening there is a slide show on a visit to Zanskar at New Meeting House, Church Street. Doors open at 7.30pm. Members were shown a DVD giving two scenarios of how rapidly a fire takes hold and emphasised how vital it is to install smoke alarms.

The competition for the most number of household items in a small matchbox was won by Sheila Hancox.

The next meeting will be the AGM to be held on November 13 at St Cecilia's Church Hall. There will be a bring and buy stall and a light supper will be provided.

SOROPTIMISTS - Linking with her theme of awareness, advocacy and action', president Linda Halliwell welcomed MEP Michael Cashman to speak at a recent meeting. Mr Cashman is one of nine European Parliament members for this region.

During his talk and when taking many questions afterwards, he told them of the five year programme for tackling equality and human rights issues which includes the rights of the child. For trafficking issues, the EP is working with 26 other countries on the Daphne 11' programme until 2008.

In her introduction, Linda told members that Mr Cashman had recently been awarded the title of MEP of the year and that in July this year he also received a honorary doctorate from Staffordshire University in recognition of his tireless campaigning work in all these issues.
