FAMILIES and friends of Wyre Forest road victims will gather at a Kidderminster church to remember their loved ones during this year's RoadPeace service.

The district branch of RoadPeace - a national charity which campaigns for safer driving - will be holding its annual service of remembrance at St Ambrose Church, on Sunday, November 18.

Rev John Paxton, social responsibility officer for the diocese of Worcester, will give the address. He said: "I can only imagine how people who have lost relatives and friends feel.

"What I want to say at the service is that the church is an appropriate place to bring together people who have gone through this experience, with professionals who can help them.

"I think some families might feel isolated in the weeks and months after the road crash.

"RoadPeace is an annual opportunity for them to meet people who are in the same position and share experiences and stories and try and support each other."

He added: "I have chosen to read Matthew, Chapter 5, during the service which, I feel, sets out some promises of God's love.

"These are words which, I believe, are words of hope and encouragement for people who experience such horrible tragedy.

"I think the Church is relevant because it's an organisation that can stand up for change.

"I hope the message will go out that we want to care for people who have gone through such tragedy and to ask the wider community why are people still being killed on our streets?"

The evening starts at 6.30pm and prayers will be led by parish priest, Father Douglas Lamb.

Professionals who deal with road tragedies as part of their working lives will also be present, including members of the ambulance, police, fire, hospital services and media.
