A GENEROUS donation from Bewdley Rotary Club has boosted funds raised for an 11-year-old boy with a severe muscle wasting disease to £8,600.
Danny Sanders, of Linnet Rise, Kidderminster, suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
His mum, Megan Sanders, wants to raise £9,500 for a motorised wheelchair that could elevate him into a standing position.
Members of the Rotary Club, who meet every Thursday at the Ramada Hotel, hold fund-raising events throughout the year and have donated £1,000.
Two months ago, the Shuttle/Times & News reported Danny's story. Since then donations have been pouring in.
Colin Amor, president of the club, said: "We had raised money at a corporate event in Malvern earlier this year.
"We served food and invited businesses to bring their clients along. After reading about Danny in the Shuttle/Times & News we decided to donate £1,000 of the money to him."
Mr Amor added: "We try to help out locally in any way we can while having fun."
Also included in the current total is money from a concert held at Kidderminster Town Hall last Thursday.
Blues Brothers tribute band, Born In Chicago, took centre stage and the event raised £1,600.
Ms Sanders said: "I'm really grateful to Bewdley Rotary Club for their donation.
"I didn't ask them, so it's really nice that they're willing to help after reading the story."
She added: "I want to say a big thank you to Born In Chicago, to everyone who came to the concert and also to all the sponsors.
"It was a fantastic night."
