AN 84-year-old woman has been knocked down by a scooter in a suspected hit-and-run.

The pensioner suffered a suspected broken ankle and bruising to her hips and back in the incident as she walked along Low Lane towards Wolverley, at 1.30pm, on Friday.

She was on her way visiting a relative when it happened.

Just past the junction to Honeybrook Lane she was struck from behind by a motorised scooter driven by a youth who came off his machine following the collision.

A woman driving a car stopped to help the pensioner, moments later, but the youth got back on his bike and rode off towards the village.

The injured woman was taken to Kidderminster Hospital and transferred to the Worcestershire Royal Hospital, but went home after treatment.

The youth, described as about 17, had a helmet on and was wearing blue jeans, a puffa-type jacket which is also thought to be blue, and cream coloured builder's boots.

A Kidderminster Police spokesman said: "The woman is obviously an active lady but is going to be housebound for a while now as a result of this.

"However her injuries could have been a lot worse.

"We need help to identify the youth who struck her on his scooter and failed to stop.

"It's quite a busy lane and someone may have seen him before or after the collision.

"His clothes are also likely to have been marked as he came off his machine and if anyone can give us any information could help us trace him we would be very keen to hear from them."

Witnesses or people with information should call police on 08457 444888 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
