THE headteacher of a Wolverley school has reassured parents and children following a serious fire earlier this month.

Wolverley CE Secondary School was forced to shut after a blaze broke out in the roof of the music block on Thursday, April 7.

The school was closed the following day so that the damage could be assessed and work could be carried out to ensure the school could reopen after the Easter break.

In a message on the school's Facebook page, headteacher Bryn Thomas reassured parents that although the cause of the fire is still under investigation, the likely cause should not cause concerns about the "day to day" safety of students.

He also confirmed that the school will reopen as normal after the holiday on Monday, April 25.

He said: "The fire, although significant, was tackled early and was isolated to the music block.

"Contractors are already working to fix the smoke and water damage as well as damage to the roof, electrics and network infrastructure.

"We anticipate this work will be completed within a few weeks.

"In the meantime, the music block will be out of action and music lessons will be temporarily relocated.

"This will mean some elements of the music curriculum may be limited, however, we will as always, do our best to overcome these challenges.

"School will therefore be open as normal to all students after the Easter break on Monday 25th April.

"The exact cause of the fire is still under official investigation, but I can reassure you that the likely cause is nothing that should concern you in terms of the day to day safety and wellbeing of our students.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all the support and to congratulate staff and students on how they dealt with this very serious incident".
