SAMURAI Judo Club fighters dominated their limited grades and senior kyu open competitions.

The club welcomed 20 teams but still managed to emerge top of the medal table after winning six golds out of 10.

Bryony Griffiths made the final of the lightest girls' weight section by seeing off clubmate Chloe Bustin in the semi-final but she lost the final and settled for silver.

In the second weight group Pippa Harper won four matches to make the final, where she defeated an opponent from Birmingham to win gold.

Samurai were not finished in this category, with Beatrice Howarth and Liane Gillespie-Akar taking the two bronzes after losing semi-finals.

In the under-66 kilogram section James Talbot looked very sharp and some good work, including a fine win against a brown belt from Manchester, took him into the final, where a Somerset brown belt finally proved too much for him.

In the under-73kg category Greg Adams won all three of his contests very convincingly against higher grades to take the gold. Ian Malhotra won a bronze in the under-81kg section.

In the blue belt section and below Samurai fighters took a clean sweep of the medals.

Emma Beddoes and Jessica Sullivan were both looking good as they fought their way to the bronzes, but Amy Evans was looking even sharper as she took her place in the final after three very good wins. However, Millie Hancocks was in another league altogether and won all of her four contests with both style and efficiency to take the gold.

In the brown belt section Evans and Hancocks won bronze, while in the final Sarah Biles beat a bigger more experienced opponent to secure gold.
