Drowning in Greenwash
Madam,
Let’s demonise protestors if they threaten our complacency – is the message from our MP Mr Garnier on Facebook, alongside a list of the Government’s perceived ‘green’ achievements.
What about the inability of the Government to set out how it will achieve its Net Zero or Jet Zero targets? Why do we feel we have to parade in Bewdley with placards and drums to draw attention to the deficit between the targets and what is needed to avoid the ever-rising global temperatures?
It’s because our Government is deaf to the body of scientific opinion that temperatures are rising faster than expected and even more action is needed.
Unlike so many MPs from other political parties, the Conservatives will not support the Climate and Ecology Bill, now going through committee stages in the House of Lords, even though many of us have asked them to do so.
Such complacency means we are sleep-walking into a hostile climate which we could avoid but only if we wake up now.
So if, like me, you and generations to come don’t want to end up as toast, write, shout, demonstrate and write some more, because so many of our influential fellows are still in serious denial.

Protestors - think again
Madam,
I see the news about protesters gluing themselves to the road on the M25 wanting oil companies to stop opening new oil and gas fields.
They do not want gas fields opened in the north sea but are quite happy to have LNG shipped from the middle east, and now from the USA.
They do not seem to realize, or choose not to accept, that the process to liquefy natural gas and then ship it to this country creates 6 times more carbon emissions than piped natural gas from the North Sea.
They would do more for the planet if they were to protest to stop the use of LNG and for this country to use its own reserves even fracked gas because until renewables and the production of green hydrogen can provide all our energy needs, we will still have to use fossil fuels and the benefits of using our own piped gas is a smaller carbon footprint and also it could be cheaper and we would be self sufficient, not affected by global events as Europe has been by being reliant on Russian gas.
I wonder if these people actually care about the planet or just enjoy the chaos they cause and like the publicity, I bet they use social media for their campaign which is provided by internet servers which consume huge amounts of energy and pumps millions of tons of carbon into the atmosphere, do they think about that?

Spare a thought for children
Madam,
On average, two children a minute contact Childline.
For these children, Christmas can be the worst time of the year.
Whatever a child is facing at Christmas, Childline is here for them.
But we can’t do it alone. The NSPCC relies on public donations for the majority of its income, which is why this Christmas we’re calling on people in the West Midlands to support the NSPCC and Childline to ensure we can be there for children whenever they need us.
Readers can find out more by visiting letterfromsanta.nspcc.org.uk.
